I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a general practice, as well as a specialty in teen emotional and behavioral problems and issues related to the transition to parenthood and maternal mental health. My passion also lies in working with women on relationship issues, depression, anxiety, self-esteem and life transitions.
In the past twenty years, I have worked with adults, teens and families in a variety of settings. I completed my undergraduate social work internship at a crisis shelter for teens in Washington, D.C. Upon graduating with my Bachelor's of Social Work in 1999, I worked as an Adolescent Substance Abuse Counselor doing substance abuse assessments, individual therapy and group facilitation. In the years following, I have gained extensive experience as a family therapist providing home-based therapy to adolescents and their families. I have assisted families in areas of parenting, communication, anger management, and problem-solving as well as supported teens in understanding their feelings and how these feelings influence their behavior. While working towards my Master's Degree in Social Work, I fulfilled my graduate internship at AspenPointe in Colorado Springs. I provided individual therapy to adults and facilitated a psycho-educational Spirituality and Recovery Group. Throughout my work experience I have coordinated services with a collection of community agencies including social services (DHS), El Paso County Courts, probation, and local schools.
Upon graduating with my Master’s in Social Work in 2011, I opened my private practice. It was at this time I also gave birth to my first son and became passionate about helping pregnant women and new moms whose transition to parenthood has been a difficult journey due to depression, anxiety, infertility and changes in identity. As a mother and psychotherapist, I was surprised by the range of emotions I felt after the birth of my two boys and the lack of professional services available to new mothers. Therefore, I have made it my aim to support women through this period by offering guidance, information and reassurance, allowing each mother to grow into her role as a parent.
